I had the privilege of illustrating a Sky Island mountain range for The Sky Island Alliance, choosing the Santa Catalina Mountains as my focus. These mountains were profoundly impacted by the Bighorn Fire in 2020, which was ignited by a seemingly innocuous lightning strike on June 5. This devastating wildfire consumed much of the range, leaving a lasting mark on the landscape. Through my paintings, I aimed to capture the power and aftermath of the fire, raising awareness of wildfires that often go unnoticed. I’m proud of how both pieces turned out, and I hope they inspire others to reflect on the fragile beauty of these environments.
