This piece draws inspiration from my study abroad experience in Japan, as well as Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic ukiyo-e painting, The Great Wave. During my time in Kyoto, I had the most incredible bowl of tonkatsu ramen, and it left a lasting impression on me. To honor that memory, I illustrated the ramen as a deliciously monstrous bowl, capturing both its flavor and the artistry of the moment.
